Dr. Belen M. Rejesus is an internationally acclaimed plant entomologist. She conducted basic bio-ecological research component analysis (biology, economic threshold level, etc.) and sought behavioral or less environmentally disruptive alternation pest control methods. She also developed IPM schemes for several stored products like coffee, corn and cruciferous pests that eventually became the bases for IPM recommendations for stored product and corn pests in the Philippines and in Southeast Asia. Dr. Rejesus pioneered and demonstrated the potential of local plants and endogenous insect regulators as pest control agents. The results of her early researches on insecticide plants laid the foundation for all other studies pursued by other scientists in the Philippines and other parts of the country.
