Dr. Ireneo Lit Jr. is recognized for his outstanding contributions in Entomology, particularly on the systematics of scale insects and mealybugs (Coccoidea, Hemiptera) of which he is the leading authority in the Philippines and in Southeast Asia. The information generated from his researches is basic and vital to the control of management of these pests of agronomic, horticultural and forestry species. His works on the systematic of this group are also of paramount importance in knowing the biodiversity in various islands of the Philippines, the host plants each pest feeds on, and how to recognize them in the field.
