Dr. George G. Eufemio is a recognized surgical oncologist who had active involvement in various clinical, academic and socio-civic activities. He is past Chairman of the Philippine Board of Surgery and former President of the Philippine College of Surgeons. He is also past Chairman, Department of Surgery of the Philippine General Hospital and Vice-Chancellor for Planning and Development in UP Manila. Drs. George Eufemio and Adriano Laudico were the first to lead a team and started hepatic artery cannulation and infusion of chemotherapeutic agents for patients with unresectable hepatoma at the Philippine General Hospital. Eufemio spearheaded the publication of the first Philippine Textbook in Surgery, with contributions from surgeons in different medical institutions in the country. Research papers and postgraduate courses were given a much needed boost during his term. He received an Honorary Fellowship from the Royal Australian College of Surgeons (1992) and served as President (1979) and Governor (1999-2002) of the Philippine Chapter of the American College of Surgeons. Presently, he renders consultancy work for Medical Center Manila and Cardinal Santos Medical Center.
